A spiritual bath involves cleansing the body and spirit by soaking in water infused with herbs, salts (called "siwasho" in South African healing traditions), or oils while setting specific intentions, often for protection, luck, or clearing negativity.
Steps for a Hoodoo Spiritual Bath:
- Prepare the Space & Self: Clean your bathroom to clear the energy. It is often recommended to take a regular shower first to wash off physical dirt, leaving the spiritual bath for cleansing the spirit.
- Prepare the Water: Fill the tub with warm water. Add ingredients based on your goal - such as Spiritual Salts, fresh herbal teas (e.g., rosemary for cleansing, lavender for calm), and Holy Oils.
- Set Intentions & Pray: While drawing the water, focus on your intention - such as removing curses, bringing in money, or attracting love. Recite prayers, psalms, or affirmations that resonate with your goal.
- Soak and Cleanse: Enter the tub and soak for 20–30 minutes. You may visualise negative energy leaving your body, and aligning your mind and heart to your intention.
- The Pour (Optional): In many traditions, you scoop the bathwater and pour it over your head, often in a downward motion to represent releasing, or upward for drawing in.
- Exit and Air Dry: When finished, stand up and visualize the negativity draining away. It is traditional to let your body air dry or pat dry with a clean towel, sometimes leaving the herbal residue on the skin overnight.
- Dispose of the Water: After the water has left the tub, wash the bath out with sea salt and cold water.
Common Additions:
- Salts: Himalayan or Sea Salt for additional protection. Our Spiritual Salts are made using traditional techniques and astrological timing.
- Herbs: Fresh Sage, Thyme, and Basil are commonly used for deep cleaning.
-
Oils: Essential oils for specific purposes. You can also see our range of Holy Oils, which are anointed onto the body after taking a Spiritual Bath.
Note: In some traditions, these baths are done for 3, 7, or 9 consecutive days, often starting on a specific day like Tuesday (for fighting off negativity), Thursday (for luck), Friday (love), or Sunday (for healing).
